The woman led Hannah across the dirt parking lot out towards the main road. The world seemed hazy and quiet, Hannah's only focus on the woman ahead of her. She was mesmerized by the way she smelled, the way her lips had tasted, her soft fingers between her own. But something else tugged at her, so muddled she barely recognized it. It was a bad feeling. One she tried to desperately push away. She longed to stay in the warm comfort of her buzz, to follow the soft purr her new friend seemed to radiate.

But the feeling was relentless, tugging at her like a phantom until she stopped in her tracks. In one startling moment of clarity, Hannah realized how far away she'd traveled from the bar. A lone streetlamp shone above her, humming with electricity. She looked back over her shoulder, but couldn't recognize anything familiar — the bar's dirt lot was gone, along with Angela's truck. Dry pavement loomed ahead and behind her, a trail with no end. Disoriented, she looked back at the woman who lingered at her side, inspecting her.

"Where — ?" But before Hannah could get the full question from her mouth, the light above them burnt out with an abrupt pop!

Hannah gasped, trying to grasp her hesitation in the dark, but the woman was too quick. She slipped her fingers through Hannah's and pulled her sharply to the right, down a steep incline, and into the woods.

Her haze broke completely, like she'd walked through water and suddenly the world was right side up again. Angela's car. The bar. The woman. Awareness and adrenaline fired through every nerve in her body as she tried to keep pace with the woman dragging her along. She had a pretty good feeling that if she lost her footing, even for a second, her companion would not stop.

A damp darkness soaked the forest, making it nearly impossible to see. The woman picked up her pace and with her hand the only tangible thing Hannah had, she held on for dear life. They ran past brush and trees, branches swiping against Hannah's bare arms with vengeance. In a desperate attempt to break free, Hannah tried to slip her hand out from the woman's, but with a snarl she threaded her fingers up and took hold of Hannah's wrist instead, gripping so tight she knew she'd see bruises later.

If there was a later.

They turned again and again until Hannah couldn't tell which way they'd come or which way they were going. The road seemed like a distant dream and even if she could break free and run, she couldn't be sure what direction to head.

Finally, the woman slowed, allowing Hannah to gather her footing. Her muscles ached, adrenaline forcing tension through every limb. Pulled along like a rag doll, she stepped over thick moss and stones, following the woman up and over a small hill that lead to the first discernible thing Hannah could see. A clearing between a cluster of trees.
